About Us
Since 1995 . . . .
Marsolais Photography was born in a deli in Denver, Colorado in 1995. It may sound like odd origins for a photography business, but let me tell you the rest of the story before your judge.
I had been taking photographs since I got my first camera when I was 14 years old. It had been a hobby--shooting 10 to 20 rolls of film per year. I was barely literate with photography until my first years in college--when I started taking it more seriously.
When I moved to Colorado in 1994, photography followed me, and I was capturing plenty of images with the new (to me) Rockies and all the beauty that part of the country offers. I was also creating images for friends and their families.
It was a snowy day outside of the deli where I worked. I was reviewing images that I had created for a friend to use as Christmas gifts--gritty images of her 10-year old son sitting with his friend on the trunk of an old red Pontiac convertable with the Colorado mountains in the background. The two boys looked like mini-James Deans with their jean jackets, ball caps and their attitudes.
At just that moment, a customer of the deli walked up to the register, and asked about the images. We chatted about them for a moment, and he asked if I was a professional photographer. I said that I was not. He responded, "Well, can I hire you?" He needed images of his show dog for promotional materials.
I thought about it for a few days--because I had never thought about photography in that fashion before--and Marsolais Photography was born. Less than a year later, I had a growing client list, and a newly-opened studio in downtown Denver.
Today
Capturing images and Visual Communication is one of the things that I do. I have since moved to the San Francisco/Bay Area, and mostly create unique and flattering portraits for online social networking sites, such as Match.com, True, e-Harmony, MySpace, Friendster, Face Book, hi-5, and Friend Finder.
